(special to "the press.") OAMARU, July 6. The business done in wheat :'n Oamaru during the past few days has •boon on a basis of quite 3dl less than a week ago. Two lines of 1000 sacks each have been sold, one at 4s Id, f.o.b. Oamaru, and the other at 4s f.0.b., the former being for Velvet straight, and the latter for mixed Velvet and red wheats. In addition, 420 sacks of Velvet and SoO sacks of red wheat brought Is at farmers' sidings, less commission, at which figure it is understood that there aro buyers, though in what quantity is not stated. Oats aro neglected, and values have receded, 2s to 2s Id being now the value of good feed Garton-. The latter figure was offered for 500 sacks, and it represents the best price obtainable. Potatoes are in better demand, and steady business is being done at up to £3 los for Derwents, and £3 12s 6d for Up-to-Dates, net, at farmers' sidings. The improved enquiry for the North Island 1 experienced in the last day or two has resulted in sales at £4 7s 6d f.o.b. for Up-to-Dates, and £4 10s f.o.b. for Derwents, though £5 has been obtaimxl for re-graded Derwents. The large quantity of turnips and mangels sown early in the autumn, in anticipation. «f a bad winter, coupled witli the plentiful supply of grass, is bringing the root crops on the market, turnips being valued at los per tan, and mangels at los to 17s 6d. Chaff is bringing £3 10s to £3 12s 6d, but export business is not brisk.
