AUCKLAND, April 28. At the meeting of householders- in tho Grafton school district laet night, the Rev. W. Gray I>ixon mad© a plea for the introduction of religious training in tho State schools, and moved:— "That the incoming committee bo requested to recommend to tho favourable consideration of the Board the question of the. reading daily to tho children a Bible lesson by one of tie teachers." Tho motion "was carried by 24 votes to 9. ...,., . The subject of Bible reading in schools also came up at tho meeting of tho Newton 'householders. Candidates for election to £he committee -were questioned as to their, attitude on the subject, and in nearly every case they expiessed themselves as against promoting Biblo reading in schools in school liours.
