There are no fewer than 28,632 names on the roll, and a record polling will certainly cro reoard'ed. It xs impossible to forecast the- result, Tihe lion. T. W. Hislop is supposed to have the support of tho Socialistic section, , as well , as a number of promiTienifc business and professional men; and Mr J. G. W. Atoken wilt no doubt get a pretty solid vote from oanwneroiaj men generally, as well ad from churchmen and pTdaibitionistd. The controversy over- the election li3s been at itime3 of a somenv-'hia.t bditter naturoj and at least on« Hbet action has arisen out of it. TJiis afternoooi a writ was issued by Messrs' Skerrett and Wylie on behalf of Jfr C. W. E"rle, ■editor of tihe "Domimo-n,'" claiming £501 damages for alleged libel, sa-id to be contaiined in the issue of the "Ne-w Z^iaLand Times" Saturday, the 25th inst. Mr C. P. Skerro£t, K.C., with ihim Mr M. will act on behalf of.tie plaintiff.
