Altogether, nine mines have been rendered idle at Newcastle, including Lambton, Burwood, West Walbend, and Northern Extended. Tho wharf labourers' strike at Newcastle continues. The strikers demand an increase to Is 3d per- hour for the day, and 16 9d per hour for night work. Crews from the boats aro assisting the permanent wharf hands, and they aro slowly discharging vessels arriving.
