COUNTY COUNCILS.
AMURI. The last meeting of tbe Amuri County Council was attended by Messrs D. D. Macfarlane (chairman), A. Mncfarlane, W. Macfarlane, Forrester, J MoArthur, D. Rutherford, and W. Thomson. Mrs M. Gale, Waiau, forwarded an account for £11 6s for gravel taken for road -works, surface damage to land, and 5s driving fees for oow alleged to have got on to the road through her gate being left open by the County Engineer. It was decided to reply that whilst the Council was prepared to pay the usual sum for gravel taken, it could not recognise the other claims. Air W. Harbison asked the Council to compensate him for loss sustained by an accident to his wife caused by the alleged negligence of one of the Council's employees. The matter was referred to the County Solicitor. It was decided to assist in opposing the Christchurch City Council's proposals in regard to the Waimakariri. Mr J. R. Scott, Rfrgorson .Valley, offered to maintain the track up the Rogerson for £5 per annum. His offer was accepted. With regard to the proposed loan, the Treasury informed the Council that all the steps taken so far were clearly infornial; the loan should have been for the whole county, with one uniform rate over the whole district, or a separate loan for each riding, with a differential rate in each case to cover interest, and a separate poll in each riding. It was decided to apply for a loan of £10,000, to include the sums previously applied for, and other works, so as to equalise the amounts in each riding, also stock bridges over the Mason and Pahau rivers. The receipts for tho past month were:—General account, £105_ 7s 8d ; river district account, £1 15s 7d. The balances on September 30th were:—County fund account, credit, £721 3s 2d; maintenance account, credit, £27 12s lOd; interest account, credit, £17 18s Id; and river district account, credit, £22 18s od. Accounts amounting to general account £335 8s 4d, and maintenance account £53 15s, were passed.
