Mr Brown, member for Perth, ■peeking in the Assembly, accused W? Illingworth, ex-member and ei-Treaeurer, of having loaned to hinwelf from the Savings Bank through a dummy, £4300, out of whioh he alleged Mr Illingworth made a profit of £8600 in six months. Mr Brown admitted that the loan was refunded, but contended that no man of honour had toe right to use Government funds to flnanco himself. ~.*
The Treasurer, in referring to the oh«rge, aaid it was cruel to bring'such charges against a man who wm now r/ing at death's door in a priyate asjlum in Melbourne, especially as the affair occurred in 1901. He had gone through the papers and had found nothing to support the charge that Mr Illingworth wrongly used hie,position. The transaction, as far ad the Treasury wm concerned, appeared perfectly clean. The security was ample, and the money duly repaid with, specified interest.
