RAKAIA.
The annual meeting of the Rrikaia Horticultural Society was held on June sth. Thero was a large attendance of
members, Mr C. A. C. Hardy, M.H.R., being in the chair. A vote of condolence with the family of the late Mr W. Cromie was passed. The secretary presented the report and balance-sheet. In spite of the very dry summer, two successful shows had been held, the number of members had nearly reached 100, and the interest in the work of the society had been well sustained. There was* a credit balance of £41 10s fd. A visit from tho Government Pomologist had also been secured. The Chairman spoke in appreciative terms of the work of the committee and the success of their efforts. It was decided to have a treasurer as well as a secretary, to limit the number of vicepresidents to seven, nnd to increase the number of tho committee to nine, with five as a quorum. Tho following officers wore elected: —President, Mr C. A. C. Hardy, M.H.R.; vice-presidents, Mesdames Bong, Holmes, and Lyttleton. Miss Duller, and Messrs J. Croy, R. Oakley, and H. J. Harrison; secretary. Rev. H. H. Mnthias; treasurer, Mr C. Tubb; committee. Messrs E. J. Carnov, J. Croy, jnn., A. Gordon, M. J. Lidolv, C. J. Middloton, R. Moody, J. N. Sharp, F. Saunders, and E. B. Wricht. A discussion ensued on including in future shows classes for eggs, poultry suitable for export, hams, etc. It was decided to recommend the committee to appoint separate judges for fruit and vegetables for tho Autumn Show. The secretary reported that he had ordered a gross of vases for tho use especially of exhibitors from a distance. Tho sum of £1 was voted to the Library Committee for the use of the room.
