GOVERNOR'S BAY.
On Sntnrday evening Mr and Mrs T. E. Harm and family were entertained ot a farewell social in the Allnndale Hall, Governor's Bay. Over ono hundred settlers and their friends from the surrounding district were present, and Mr W. Radcliffe (chairman of the Domain Board) prrsHed. An excellent supper was provided, and after tho toast of "Tlie King" had been honoured the chairman referred to the regret fo!t by all in the district at the approaching departure of Mr and Mrs Harris from their midst. Mr Harris hod recently purchased a farm on the Plains, and ihey were now about to lose ono who had grown up among them, and who had been always o good neighbour and friend. On behalf of the settlors. Mr Radcliffe then presented Mr Harris with a travelling rug. and Mrs Harris with a silver cruet and a silver tonpot Mr Harris returned thanks for the handsome presonts'and kind wishes of his friends. He said that he was sorry to "leave the Bay, but ho thought that it was his duty, having a largo family growing up, and his present homestead being far too small. It was quite possible, however, that ho might return to the Bay at some future date. Me_srs Allan, Bamford. Orton, Gebbi**, and others spoke very highly of their guest as a neighbour and as a member of the Domain Board, of the Mount Herbert County Council, tho late Port Victoria Road Board, and the School Committee. Mr C. Edwards said that he was present at Mr Harris's christening forty-seven years ago, in the old temporary church in the B iv. With a vote of thanks to the chair the function terminated. Dancing then commenced, and was kept up for somo hours.
