Dr. Brown moved the adoption of the recommendation of tho New South Wales Conference that tho mission to India be postponed for the prosen t on the grounds of the large mission work still to be done in the Islands of the Pacific and the extra expenditure, lie pointed out that tho current expenditure for the past three years exceeded the income by nearly £liUOO. The Rev. Dr. Fitchett pointed out the smallncss of the population involved in the jnissions to the Pacific compared with India. The question was not only whet-her they were spending money in a good cause but whether it was to the best effect. They were told to do the work at their door*. Measured by time India was nearer than some of the Pacific Islands. He moved an amendment providing that the Mission Board should 6end one or more men to India to be trained in mission work, and prepared for an Australasian mission, it being left to the Mission Board, according to information collected, either to at once organise a permanent Australasian Mission in India or to maintain a preparatory mission till the next general conference. Dr. Fitchett's amendment was carried by a large majority.
