The Methodist Conference decided to insert in the Book of Laws a resolution warning mombers and adherents of the Church to abstain entirely from dancing, theatre-going, and other questionable auiusenieutti, in view of the groat moral and spiritual peril attaching thereto. Tho Conference adopted the recommendation of tho New Zealand Conference in favour of authorising home missionaries or other person- of good standing and character to administer sacraments in home mibbiou districts. Dr. Brown moved the adoption of the recommendation of the New South Wales Conference that tho mission to India be postponed for the prosen t on the grounds of the large mission work still to be done in the islands of the Pacific and the extra expenditure. Ho pointed out that tho current expenditure for the past three years exceeded the income by nearly £liooo. The Rev. Dr. Fitchett pointed out the smallncas of the population involved in the jpissions to the Pacific compared with India. The question was not only whetJier they were spending money in a good cause but whether it was to the best effect. They were told to do the work at their doors. Measured by time India was nearer than some of the Pacific Islands. He moved an amendment providing that the Mission Board should 6end one or more men to India to be trained in mission work, and prepared for an Australasian mission, it being left to the Mission Board, according to information collected, either to at onoe organise a permanent Australasian Mission in India or to maintain a preparatory mission till the next general conference. Dr. Fitchett's amendment was carried by a large majority.
