SOUTHERN (DUNEDIN) v. ALBION.
The annual game between Southern (Dunedin) and Albion (Christchurch), tvae played at Lancaster Park on the east ground. There was a strong easteny wind blowing, of which the v;s.tors had the advantage in the bret *>pell. The ground wae very hard. Tne game early developed iteeif into a trial of the home teams backs versus tho visitors' forwards, and the backs had much the best ot the deal in the nret spell. The home team's too. had had none the wonst ot the encounter during the time they played against the wind. After a lot ot attempts at passing by tho homo team's backs, which was met by good tackling on the part of their opponeuts, a passing rush let Burns over, and atevenft kicked a good goal. Play was very even following, out just before half-time Gray scored, Stevens *ju*t missing by a good kick. With 6 points in their favour, the home team seemed to have all the beet ol" the game. However, in tho latter stages of tho game, tho visitors liad the better ot the play, but their backe were not capable ot accepting tho opportunities, although Eckold was just pushed into touch-ui-goal. Jifcrt. on time a fine passing rush by the Albion backs lot Mason over, ana Stevens again converted, leaving Albion winners by two goals and one try (13 points) to nil. At W. G. Garrard was referee.
