FIJI'S POSITION.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEORAM.) # AUCKLAND, October 30. Fiji news states that a deputation of commercial men waited on the Acting-As-sistant Colonial Secretary, in the absence of the Administrator, in reierenoe'.tq the duites imposed by thd federal tariff' on goods exported by Fiji. The Warden stated it was evident it would bo impossible to send maize or fruit to Sydney at a profit to the grower. With regard to maize, Sydney was their only market, as Sew Zealand i did not require any. The possibility of a reciprocal tariff .was mentionedj but it was "pointed put that- if they forced. Australia in.this ways New Zealand would ask for similar concessions. The advisability of opening fresh markets waa urged. Mr Sutherland, in reply, said no doubt the tariff would be a serious blow to Fiji. He promised to send a formal protest ! against the matters mentioned.
