NEW BRIGHTON.

The New Brighton Borough Council met on Monday night. Present—Cre. Winny (in the chair), Bellamy, Foster, Walker, De la Mare, Wyatt. Correspondence was read "from the Canterbury Women's Institute, asking the Council to nominate one of five ladies named as the Council's representative on the Charitable Aid Boajrd. The Chairman expressed the opinion that the election of women to the Board was not an unqualified success,' and the letter was received. Communication was received from Mr Ritchie, Secretary of Agriculture, but as it bad been received by telephone, and waa not capable of interpretation', it was received. Mr G-. T3. Stead, Treasurer of the Royal vieit fund, wrote forwarding statement of accounts. A [ letter from Mr Allan Hopkins regarding the Juantity of gerse on the road north of tht ►omain was' referred to the Works Committee. i . The Town Clerk reported receipts for rate* . since last meeting £25 2s 3d, debtor balance at bank £223 7s lid; that the contract; and bond in connection with the erection of the new Council Chambers -had been signed. The Works Committee reported having inspected the improvements re-suggesfed by the Foreman, and recommended thab thY sand at Patterson's comer and the esplanade seats should bs removed as soon as possible; and that the scrub, etc., on the river road should bs cleared.by owners of properties adjoining. The Committee also reported ,on various other minor matters. It was agreed to accept Cr. Walker's offer to permit the Council to water supply for the CouncilV water cart, and he was accorded a vote cf Accounts were passed for payment, and the Council adjourned. A special meeting of tie New Brighton Borough Council was held on Tuesday night,, the Mapor (Mr G. Mclntyre) in tne chair. On the motion of Councillor Thomson, seconded' by sCouncillor Edwards, the resolution striking 1 a rate of 5d in t-hte .£ on all. property in .the loan area in the borough, to provide for payment of the loairbf £3000 under the Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, was confirmed. .
