THE ELECTRICAL SUPPLY BILL.
(special to "the pbess/'} . ' WELLINGTON, October 30. . When the vote for the Wainkkariri-Ash-ley Supply Board, £1000, -was reached on the , Public , Works Estimates. :during the early hours this morning," Messrs. Collnis and Smith referred to the opposition that had been shown to the Christchurch Electrical Supply- Bill. They pointed out that though, the Board was -using under 100 , head of water, it - was objecting to the city getting power to use the,"supply, although there was 1800 feet per second to spare. -; A- strong ' opinion was expressed liidt the three local bodies concerned should meet and 'agree to some businesslike arrangement in-the matter. Mr Buddo explained that his Board had no desire to adopt a dog-in-the-manger policy, but must have their? rights conserved. The discussion left the impression that while the House would be quite willing to conserve the lights of the settlers, it would not let them block'the rights 'of the- city". The BUI, however, is dead, fon this" session, bat. next year, 'no doubt, some middfe course will be arranged, so as to enabled I to become .law. - -
