The Lyttelton Borough Council met en Wednesday night. A formal resolution confirmin_t the special rate on account of "the loan was carried. Tha -Mayor was appointed to represent the Council at the weekly half-holiday Conference, and instructed to support Thursday as the holiday. Cr. Ealam proposed that the treasurer, _\lr Rogers, be given twelve months' notice, from January Ist. Cr. Laurenson supported the motion, and suggested that an expression of tlie Council's appreciation of Mr Rogers's services should be added to it. Cr. Ealam adopted Cr. Laurenson's suggestion, and the Council agreed to draft a resolution in accordance with the general feeling of the men-libers. Six months' leave ol absence was granted Mr Peter Semmens, engineer at the Exeter street pumping station. The report of the foroman of 'works, strongly recommending the enforcement of the by-laws to prevent the wasting of water, was adopted. From Saturday evening to Monday morning 90,000 gallons had been used. A proposal, made by Cr. Ealam, that the Council pay the Accident Assurance premiums of the Fire Brigade, was referred to the Fire Prevention Committee to report.
