UNION CRICKET CLUB
The annual meeting of the Union Cricket Club was held on Friday last. The secretary read the report and balance-sheet for the last season, which was considered satisfactory. The following were elected officers for the coming season:—Deputy captain, Mr B. Edser; secretary and treasurer, Mr T. Smith; management committee, captain, deputy captain, and Messrs Simons and Harding: delegate to Thursday Cricket Association, Mr C. Turner. The secretary was instructed to endeavour to arracge an opening game with the Belfast Club.
The annual meeting of the Leeston Cricket Club took place on Friday evening List, Mr T. W. Durant presiding. * The statement of accounts showed a credit balance of £1 Os 7d, with outstanding liabilities £1 3s. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Hon. W. H. Montgomery; presidi/nt, Mr W. G. Lunn: vice-presidents, Messrs K. H. Rhodes, M.H.R., W. Spring, Dr. Cosset, J. F. Cunningham.. J. Lambie, and F. Overton; captain, N. Herron; vicecaptain, W. H. Lockwood; secretary and treasurer, J. McMeekhan. Mr Herron was appointed delegate to the Elleemere Cricket Association, and it was decided to recommend the Committee to favourably consider the question of joining the Canterbury Cricket Association. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Spring for the use of his ground. The annual meeting of the Rangiora Veterans' Cricket Club was held on Friday evening, Mr J. B. Wilson in the chair. The balance-sheet showed receipts, £14 7s 3d, expenditure £9 ss, and credit balance £5 2s 6d. The following officers were elected for the .ensuing year: —Patron, Mr D. Buddo, M.H.R.; president, Mr J. B.Wilson ; vice-presidents. Messrs A. B. Blaekett, E. R. Good, M. Scott, J. Sansom. M. Macfarlane, and H. C. J. Bailey; secretary and treasurer, Mr W. T. Wilson; captain, Mr C. Hayman. It was decided to open the season on 27th September. Mr C. B. Mason had the highest batting average, and won the hat given by Mr Bailey last season.
