THE REVISED VERSION.

Borne little comment has been made and is continuing to be made in the papers all over the country (says the London "Daily News") upon the legal action recently taken to protect the copyright in the revised version of iue Bible, It may be worth while to recall the financial arrangements under which the work was carried out. The revised "copy" was supplied gratuitously by the Revisers to both Universities, and both immediately put the work into type, Oxford setting up two sizes and Cambridge two, and a filth— the "parallel edition," in which the revised and the unrevHs-ed are printed side by side— was divided between the two. W.uen these five editions had been set up and stereotyped the plates were exchanged. Thus far the two universities had been in partnership, and the copyright belonged to them jointly, and the undertaking cost them something over £20,000. Of course, they were induced to incur this heavy outlay by the expectation that their copyright would recoup them. The printing and binding and circulation each University has done for itself. With the interchange of plates their joint actions ceased, but in the matter of copyright they nre unitedly interested, and they are justly entitled to protection.
