JURY SERVICE.

Two or three jurors seeking exemption from Supreme Court service in Wellington (says the "Pest") advanced the plea of deafness, and caused Mr Justice Edwards to remark tnat if tnese cases became too frequent the Court would have to require doctors to come and testify. Mr H. Beauchamp asked for exemption as a grand jnror because he was a director of the Bunk of New Zealand. "But you are not a Government officer." replied the Judge. Subsequently his Honour said it appeared that Mr Beauchamp was exempt as he was appointed by tho Governor-in-Council. "I suppose it is a salaried office?" he enquired. Mi Beauchamp—"Yes, your Honour. I haven't received my salary so far. but I believe thero is a salary attached to it."
