THE NEW GUINEA LAND SYNDICATE.
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, February 6. The "Daily Telegraph" characterises Mr Chamberlain's suggestion to compensate the New Guinea land grabbers as a quaint sample of generosity at other people's expense. It considers it would be far more equitable if the syndicate compensated the colonies for the trouble they have been put to in checkmating the syndicate's peculiar movements. The Premier states that several of the colonies strenuously oppose the oayment of compensation to the New Guinea Land Syndicate unless they are able to make.out a strong claim.' It has been <arranged that the AgentsGeneral shall deal with the claim, and the colonies will abide by their decision. LONDON, February' 6. Mr Chamberlain has been legally advised that the New Guinea Syndicate have no claim for compensation for the disallowance of the ordinance. He recommended the payment of their out-of-pocket expenses since April. * / • ,-■■ *
