GATHERING OF OLD COLONISTS.
A Press Association telegram states that a unique historical function took place yesterday at the Auckland Exhibition. This was a gathering of old identities, of whom 300 were present. The President (Mrß. Kent, and the committee received them, escorted them through the Exhibition and gave them an appropriate concert programme and organ recital in the Choral Hall, where the President addressed them, after which a bnycle race was provided, the preceedings closing with afternoon tea. The oldest colonist present was Mr E. Williams, who came with the Rev. S. Marsden in 1823, in the Brampton, and the oldest lady colonist present was Mrs Gittos (nee Holl8) the wife of tho Rev. W. Gittos. Mrs Gittos, who was presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, was born in 1830 at Hokianga. Captain Jackson Barry and his mate, Tom Davison of the Bay of" Islands, who arrived in 1837, were present.
