THE EXPORT OF RABBITS.

The enormous expansion of late of the Australasian export trade in frozen rabbits is attracting considerable attention in Eng-' land. Accordin.? to the estimates the shipments made duripg 1898 equalled about 10.000 tons, which is equivalent to about 500,000 carcases of mutton, and this lar°e export ha_ had something to do with the lower prices ruling for theTlatter in the English market. New Zealand is Victoria's greatest competitor in the trade, but the? fact that the shipments of Victoria have been delivered in prime order has given our rabbits, says a Melbourne paper-, a call on the market. During 1898 the shipments from Victoria amounted to 1,837,444, valued at close on £50,000, hence the trade is by no means an insigmflcant one.
