AUSTRALIAN FROZEN MEAT FOR SOUTH AFRICA.
South Africa continues to draw consider-
1 able supplies oi froaen meat from Austra-
Ha; indeed, consumers'in the former evidently look to these colonies to <upplv their wants. The "Cape Times" says that it is reported that the directors of De Beers have decided to erect cold storage, accommodation on a large scale, in order to prevent their employees being starved out during the coming colonial meat famine. It is expected that in the course of a, few months the bresctnjg cattle of this part of the colony will, at the present rate of slaughtering, be annihilated, and Kimberly will consequently be entirely dependent on oversea supplies, which, however, without cold storage, would be useless. It is further understood that arrangeinertt- will cc made with the Railway department to run refrigerator cars. L'nder such conditions it may be expected that this trade will tend to expand; the only wonder is that we do not hear more desire expressed locally to open up these markets for our produce.
