A FLOATING HOSPITAL.
There is an institution in Xew York that is both a boon and a necessity in the torrid heat of summer in the Empire City. "This," says the Daily Chronicle, "is the floating Hospital for Children, under the auspices of the Guild of St. John. Every day during the summer season, when the heat of ISiew York oppresses both old and young, a huge boat, capable of accommodating between 700 and 800 children and their parents, leaves the city proper and goes down the bay, where it is anchored for several hours. The result of this simple treatment is remarkable. The fresh air revives the children, and many who are taken on board almost oblivious of their surroundings, the result of close confinementin the bad air of the tenements in which their lives are passed, revive and play about. This floating Hospital depends entirely for its support on the public, and something like £5000 is required in order to keep it going from about the middle of July until the end of September."
