AUCKLAND, August 25. The headless body of an infant waa washed up on St. Mary's road, Ponsonby. The human bones, fo'md in a cave near Penrose, appear to havo lain there for years, and are supposed to be the skeleton of a Maori.
WELLINGTON, August 25. The criminal calendar for Monday contains sixteen cases against twenty prisoners. No less than nine are charges under the law relating to the age of consent. DUNEDIN, August 25. Mr Carew? refused an application for a re-hearing of the Rollinson-Favell case. Colonel H. S. Olcotfc, President and founder of the Theosopliical Society, arrived to-day by the Talune. The question of asking the Trustees of the Savings Bank to remember the Benevolent Trustees in the . proposed allocation of the surplus, if the Bank is extinguished, was mentioned at a meeting of the Benevolent Trustees to-day, but nothing was done. One Trustee said they wanted all the money to buy a farm and remove the inmates to it.
