ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
At half-past eight yesterday morning a fisherman, named Thomas Hines, reported to Constable Hayes, at Woolston, that an hour previously he and his brother had found the body of a woman lying on the mud flats in the Eetuary. The Constable at once proceeded to the spot, and found the body lying about 500 yards from the Heathcote bridge, with a trail made in the mud, showing where it had been carried down by the tide from the bridge. He conveyed the body to the Wharf Hotel, Woolston, where it is at present. The description given of the woman is as follows :—About sft 6in high, stout build, dark hair, dark complexion. A purss was found on the body containing two threepenny pieces and one penny, and a half of a second-ulase railway ticket to Bumhatn. The body has been identified as that of Mies Laurie, or Lavrry, of Springston. The Rev. H. H. Mathias, Vicar of Kaiapoi, has been confined indoors for some days. He is suffering from a badly bruised knee, caused by his horse falling on the Papanui road.
