HOSPITAL BOARD.

The Hospital Board met yesterday. Present—Messrs JR. D. Thomas (Chairman), H. W. Peryman, J. Hamilton, G. Wallace, W. Dunlop, C. M. Gray, J. A. CaygiU, J. Dobson, Drs. Hunt and Stewart. Apologies were received for the absence of Messrs Murray, Moore and Westenra. The receipts for July were—St. Albans £12 Is 7d, Akaroa £25 6a 2d, Kowai £34 4s 3d, Kaikoura £7 Iβ 4d, Arauri £14 Bs, Eyreton £26 8s 3d, Akaroa £25 6s 2d, Linweod £9 15s 7d, West Eyreton £13 5s 9cL Ashley £13 10s, St: Albans £12 Is 7d, Kaikoura £7 Is 4(1; patients fees, &c, £111 4sj total £311145. The receipts for the current; month were— Akaroa £25 6s 2d, Amari £14 Bs, Linwood £9 15s 7d, Christchurch £73 18s Id, Selwyn £279 7s 2d, Kaiapoi £U 2s 6d, Ashley £6 15e, Mandeville £40 3e 6d. A ballot was taken for the election of a physician on the honorary staff, and Pi\ Bolger was selected. . Mr C. M. Gray was appointed to represent the Board on the Committee to con* sider the question of the treatment of contagious diseases. The rest of the report was adopted. The House Surgeon reported:—During July 106 patients were admitted, 10b dis* charged, 10 died, leaving 90 remainingori the 31st. The causes of death were:—l, pneumonia; 2, meningitis ; 3, meningitis; 4, cancer mouth ;5, diabetes; 6, cerrhosis of liver; 7, burns; 8, cardiac disease; 9, cancer of stomach; 10, pneumonia. 344 patients wore attended iv tho out , patient department, 36 operations Wepe par* formed under anaesthetics. Owing , to the fact that a large number of extremely severe cases have been admitted the work of the hospital has been very arduous for some time past, but favourable results havq ropaid the extra labour that has been thrown upon all the staffs.
