WAIMATE.
The monthly meeting of the Waimate Borough Council was held on Monday evening. Present—The Miyor, and Ore. Sinclair, Jones, O'Connor, Petit, Collett, Cameron, Inkster, and Coltman. Correspondence was considered—l'Vom Mrs Mary Hunt, askinc for a reward for giving the alarm at the recent fire in the Council Chambers; Received. From the agent of the Standard Insurance Company, with regard to the late fire. It was unanimously resolvec-—"That this Council expresses its appreciation of the manner in which tlie Standard Insurance Company have settled the Council's claim in connection with the late fire at tbe Council Chambers." Cr. Coltman moved—"That the thanks of this Council be tendered to the members of the Waimate Volunteer Fire Brigade for tho efficient services rendered by them in extinguishing the late fire, and that the sum of £5 be voted to them in recognition of same." Tlie annual balancesheets, duly audited, were laid on the table, and it was resolved to adopt them, and the Clerk was authorised to have the statements published. A formal notice, making a rate of one shilling in the £, was carried. It was resolved that the Council vote the sum of £25 as subsidy to the Waimate Fire Brigade. The Secretary was instructed to re-insure the Council building 3 for the full amount. Accounts amounting to £31 8s Brl wore passed. ■
