"FORTITER IN RE."
Apropos of the reception accorded to Anarchist speakers in London, mentioned in to-day's cable messages, we extract the following passage from some remarks made by MrChauncey M. Depew, on his return to America after the Jubilee celebrations. Mr Depew, speaking of incidents he witnessed in the streets of London, said, "On one occasion, at a fountain, near which a stand was to be erected, a labour leader or socialist was addressing a crowd and denounced the Queen, the entire court, and the Government for the lavish expenditure on the Jubilee. He grew more and more excited as he proceeded and worked himself up into a frenzy, without affecting the crowd in the least. Just then the carpenters who were erecting the stand strolled up, and after listening for a few minutes to the speaker, walked over to him, lifted him off his feet, and deliberately threw him into the fountain, amid the plaudits of the crowd."
