HEAVY WEATHER.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TKLT.ORAM.) 1 Wellington, August 23. On the voyage from Sydney the Wakatipu, which arrived here this afternoon, experienced very severe weather. Shortly after leaving Sydney, on Wednesday last, she encountered a he ivy S.S. W. gale, which necessitated her being hove-to for a time. On the weather improving she continued the voyage, but after running about 300 miles met another gale, aud the vessel had to be kept head to sea for fifteen hours. The starboard lifeboat was smashed as well as a portion of the railings and deck fittings. A number of horses on board suffered severely from the sea, which swept the ship from stem to stern. On her arrival the passengers presented Captain McDonald and his officers with a testimonial congratulating them on the seamanship they dispia}'ed.
