Captain Edwin telegraphed yesterday as follows:—" Wind between north-we3t and west and south at all places northward of Napier and New Plymouth, aud between south-east and south and west at all other places. Barometer rise everywhere. Sea heavy on west coast of North Island and ou eastern coast of both islands southward of East Cape, moderate elsewhere. Southerly gales, with rain, ace probable at all places on eastern coast of both islands, trom Bluff to East Cape, and colder weather everywhere, with f cost on high country southward from Tawpo." Captain Edwin reported last night: — " There are evidences that low pressure, travelling to south south-west, exists at about 250 miles to the north-east of East Cape, and a falling barometer and southerly winds are probable in the North Island and oa the east coast of the South Island northward of Lyttelton. There is also low pressure to the southward of Hobart, which will be south of Stewart Island ou the 26th instant." Sailkd—August 23. Orowaiti, s.s., 455 tons, Kerr, for Westport. Yesterday the three-masted schooner Whangaroa was taken on to the p.itent slip for survey and repairs. Mr J. Grubb at once commenced to strip the copper. It was found she had received considerably more damage than was at fir3t supposed. The full extent was not known yesterday, but it is evident that the repairs will extend over two or three weeks.
Yesterday was a very slack day arnougst the shipping in Port. Not a vessel arrived, and the sailings were limited to the Corinna for Dunedin, and Orowaiti for Westport.
