ST. ALBANS.
The St. Albans Borough Council met last night. Present —Crs. Chajlewood -{ActingMayor), Money, Penteney, Glass, : Hill* Neate, K.eig, and Morgan. An apology for absence was received from Cr. Cook. The report of the Finance Committee showed receipts £277 15s 4d, Accounts for payment £408 9s 9d, debit balance at the Bank £525 5s sd. The report was adopted. Tho Inspector of Nuisances reported that he had warned persons who had been holding pub—__ entertainments in unlicensed buildings to cease the practice. The action was approved. The report of the Slaughterhouse Inspector, stating that the slaughterhouses in the borough were in good order, w*B adopted. Correspondence was received from the Riccarton Road Board re the formation of a footpath on the Boundary road. On the motion of Cr. 'Keig it was resolved— " That the matter be referred to the Works Committee to report, in terms of the resolutions of April 26th and August: 26th." From the Riccarton Road Board, asking the Council to share the cost of placing a lamp in the Boundary road. The letter' was received and acknowledged, and the Board referred to a previous resolution on the matter. From Constable Stunner, iitaiing that he had taken steps to put an end to'the nuisance caused by doctors' carriage! blocking the road in front of a medical home on Papanui road. The letter was reoeived. From Mr Wilson, pointing out on behalf of Mr Finnerty, the nightsoil contractor, that the latter's work had been largely increased through the growth of the borough. The letter was. referred to the Sanitary Committee to make enquiries and report. Oo the motion of Cr. Morgan it was resolved that by-law No. 27 re keeping of swine be amended by altering ." sixty-six **feet" to "132 feet." On the motion of Cr. Charlewood a vote of thanks was passed to the retiring Councillors, Messrs Cook, Neate, and Keig, and Crs. Neate and Keig replied. * The Council then adjourned until September 19th.
