Several thousand workmen are locked out at Burnley, and 21,000 are idle at Oldham.
The Employers' Federation declare that by Christmas the strike will have cost the Amalgamated Engineers' Society £400,000.
Sydney, August 21.
Because two lads employed as wheelers were paid a little less than the regulation wages the wheelers at the Burwood colliery struck, throwing 240 men out of work. The management contemplate closing down altogether.
The strike at the Lucknow mine has resolved itself into a waiting game, both sides being confident of victory. The manager, while admitting that he has not yet engaged any practical miners, has taken on sufficient men for the present requirements of the mine.
