(FROM OTJR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.)
WELLINGTON, August 22. San Francisco papers to hand by last mail contain accounts and illustrations of the gdd diggers in the Yukon district and their mode of living and travelling. A man named Berry and his wife returned to San Francisco after having netted 130,000d01s for their first seasons work. Mrs Berry herself took out of the claim nuggets worth 10,000i!ol?. She was newly-married whsn she went to the diggings in the far north with her husband, and the pair had to endure great privation. There is a great demand in .San Francieco for berths in steamers going north, and women are among those who will join the rush. The diggings are within the Arctic circle, and only strong men, well equipped and provisioned, should think of undertaking the journey. It is probable that many will lose their lives in making the arduous journej', and in seeking for the hidden treasure on the field.
