Pre— Afrtoc'-rtion—By Telegraph—Copyri-cht. SIR CHARLES LILLEY. Sydney, May 28. Sir Chas. Lilley is improving. SEVERE EARTHQUAKE. The Taviuni, which has arrived from Auckland via the islands, reports that one of the severest earthquakes ever experienced in Tonga occurred on April 29th. Considerable damage was done to property, but there* were no casualties. DISAPPEARANCE OF A PRIEST. The Rev. Father Fahey has dis appeared under mysterious circumstances. A bag containing a letter addressed by him to the InspectorGeneral of Police was found on a harbour steamer. It stated that he intended to commit suicide in consequence of the failure of his appeals to secure better education for children attending Catholic schools. He was of eccentric habits and suffered from hallucinations. THE VICTORIAN REVENUE. Melbourne, May 27. The revenue shows a considerable improvement, and it is now certain that the Colonial Treasurer will be able to announce a small surplus in the Budget statement in August. THE VICTORIA COFFEE PALACE. The Victoria Coffee Palace Company has decided to reduce its capital from £-00,000 to £50,000.
