HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

A meeting of those interested in the formation of a Horticultural Society was held yesterday evening at the rooms of the A. and P. Association. The Hon. E. C. J. Stevens presided. The Chairman said that the Committee appointed by the public meeting, called by invitation to draw up a Constitution of the proposed Society, taking care to conserve the interests of the existing Societies, also to draft, a code of rules, and to report to a general meeting to be held in twenty-eight days, had met on two occasions and had discussed various forms that the Constitution of the proposed Horticultural Sooiety might take, and had come to the following resolution :—"That whilst it is expedient that a Horticultural Society should be formed it seems necessary, as a preliminary step, to ascertain the views of the Societies already existing as to co-operation on their

part." .'" * . Mr Jones moved -" That the Committee be discharged." Mr Murray-Aynslby said he would not be in favour of the Committee being discharged. Mr Low thought that the Committee's report should he received. , Mr Smith moved as an amendment— "That the Committed be requested to confer with the Rose and Chrysanthemum Societies and report to a future meeting." Mr Aynslev seconded the amendment, which was lost, aud the motion was carried.
