CULVERDEN.
Wednesday, December 16. (Before H. W. Bishop, Esq., S.M.) Licensing Act.— J. Dickie, who did not appear, was charged with refusing to quit the Waiau Hotel, and was fined 40s and costs, or in default a month's imprisonment; also with wilfully breaking a pane of glass, and was fined 20s and 15s 'for damage, or in default three weeks' imprisonment. Railway By-Laws.— J. McClusky was charged with travelling on the railway without a ticket. Fined 20s, fourteen days allowed. ' Rabbit Act.—A long case was heard or: .the" r' <>the ..SfQatcuhivpoctor, chargingTb. D. M&ofarlane'wlttr ing in the opinion 'of the In spector to destroy rabbits as required by section 9 Rabbit Nuisance Act, 1882, The defendant was shown to be renting Crown lands, for which the lease expires on, December 31st. Notice was statecl to have' been given on September 24th to clear the rabbits. Defendant contended that he 1 had taken every means, and called witnesses showing that he had made efforts to deal with the rabbits, and he alleged that his neighbours had not been treated in. the way he had been. The Magistrate held that the law gave him no option but to deal with the case on the opinion of the Inspector. Fined £5 and costs. A second information under the same section was withdrawn.
