(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEORAMS.) AUCKLAND, March 9. On Saturday evening a meeting of the Auckland Trades and Labour Council was held, Mr John Fawcus presiding. It waa decided that Mr W. C. Frascr, Vice-Presi-dent, and Mr J. Fawcus, President, be sent as delegates to the Labour Conference at luvercargill, and that, failing the gumdiggers sending a delegate, the Couucil would send one in his place- if the funds will allow. It was resolved to forward to Wellington the following items for the Conference order paper : — Undesirable immigrants, master aud apprentices, gum diggers' grievances, tailors' grievances, and the Juries Act Amendment, proposing that each common juror should get 8s per day dear of expenses. WELLINGTON, March 9. Andrew Suttee, formerly a commercial traveller at Wellington, who was recently brought over from Sydney on a warrant, was committed for trial on a charge of perjury at Carterton by swearing that the bar of the Royal Oak Hotel was open on the night of January 13th after hours, and drink was supplied. Bail wae allowed. The libel action brought by five Masterton publicans against the Wairarapa Daily Times has baen settled out of Court. The property known as MeNab's Gardens, at Lower Hutt, wae offered for sale by auction to-day. The bidding went up to £6600, which was below the reserve, and the property was withdrawn. At the. Supreme Court to-day, Geo. Carey was acquitted on a charge of assault and causing actual hodily harm. The Public Works Committee of the City Council recommends that the by-laws in fflgaftl "to "tkt's* j»y%rbrbwdirig '6T | busea, &c, be strictly enforced, and that an ! inspector be appointed to regulate the vehicle traffic of the city.
DUNEDIN, March 9. Andrew Wedderspoon, traveller ior Briscoe and Co., has been arrested for embezzlement and remanded till Thursday. Kempthorne, Prosser aud Company have declared a dividend of per cent., absorbing £6570, and carry forward £13,834. .
