TEE TARIFF COMMISSION.
(fR-83 ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, February 6. The Tariff Commission met at 2.30 p.m. An Mr MoKenzie, the remaining Commissioner, had not yet arrived, the question of admitting Press representatives was again adjourned. The matter will be definitely decided to-morrow, whether Mr McKenzie has arrived or not. The Commission will also decide whether they, will continue their labours in the North Island or proceed to the South Island first. A number ol letters and applications from representatives of trades, commercial houses and manufacturers were received, and it was decided to take their evidence to-morrow. Applications from deputations, representing certain trades and industries, to give evidence were also received. Lengthy and valuable evidence was given on behalf of the the tanning and curryiug industry, and certain alleged inconsistencies iv the tariff wero asked to be removed. Evidence was also given ou behalf of the tinware and japanned trade, and alterations in tho tariff were asked for. The Commission adjourned at sp.m. until 11 tomorrow. They will ait again in the afternoon and also in the evening at 7.30. As certain trades wish to be represented by a joint deputation the Commissioners say that they will bo prepared to receive such deputations at such times as may be arranged.
