ANGLICAN GENERAL SYNOD.
(press association telegram.) NELSON, February 6.. Archdeacon Govett presented the report of the Committee on tho proposed alterations of the Dioceses of Auckland and Waiapu. The Committee recommended that the Archdeaconry of Taranaki should be transferred fromjAuckland to Waiapu, and the Archdeaconry of Taurangafrom Waiapu to Auckland. It proposed alterations in the boundaries of the Auckland and Waiapu Dioceses, bnt no alteration of the boundaries of the Dioceses of Wellington and Waiapu. The Bishop of Waiapu moved—" That the resolntions appended to the report of the Select Committee, on the petition of Archdeacon Beaumont and others, be taken into consideration by the Synod." Canon McMurray contended that the Synod had no authority to deal with the matter, as tbe matter of determining disputed elections had been delegated to the Diocesan Synod, and the decision of the tribunal thus appointed must be fiaaL He moved as an amendment —" That the, Synod was bound to accept the return of clerical representatives made by the Standing Committee of the diocese of Dunedin (Dean Fitchett and Canon Lucas)." The Bishop of Dnnedin seconded the amendment. A long discussion took place thereon, lasting. to close upon the six o'clock adjournment.. The motion was carried upon a division. AyesBishops 6, clergy 16, laity 19; noesBishop 1, clergyman.l, layman 2. Upon resuming at 7.30 the Synod went into Committee on the second reading of the Bill to amend Title A, Canon 1, section 1, Appointment of Bishops, moved by the Bishop of Waiapu. The Synod was in Com? mittee the whole evening. Tbe Bill was reported, passed through Committee, and amended, and the third reading set down for Monday. ' Consideration of the recommendations ot the Committee on Archdeacon Beaumont's petition will be taken to-morrow.
