THE HALF-HOLIDAY.
At Auckland last night a meeting of tradesmen in favour of closing on Wednesday was held at the V.M.C.A. rooms. About eighty were present. The following resolution was passed :—" We, the undersigned tradesmen of the city of Auckland, believing the operation of the Act to be most unfair and unjust, and further believing the so-called Conference which sat for the purpose of deciding the closing day was not constituted in accordance with the Act, here signify our desire to see the matter tested in the courts of law. We agree to close on Wednesdays at one o'clock, and to remain open, on Saturday till our usual closing time, until the decision of the court. shall have been giveq." It was also agreed to endeavonr to arrange with the Inspector for a test case. It was slated that a test case in the Supreme Court would cost about £25.
