Oα the 21«t ult there was picked np on the beach at Mangati, on the western coast of Great Barrier Island, a sealed bottle, con* taming a written paper, which stated it was thrown overboard from the British steamer {Thermopylae, bound from Sydney to London, in latitude 36*25 south, and longtitudo 150-05 east, off Cape Howe on too Victorian coast. The date wa* March, 1893. The drift of the bottle shows that an tMterly current sets towards New Zealand from Australia. The bottle, whiob had been Nearly two yeuis in the water, was covered *ith barnaoles.
