Advices from the West Coast of Africa state that Major Hodden's column baa captured Jambur, and is advancing against Fodialah'a stronghold. MR PEEL'S PAPER AGAIN. Several newspapers comment on Sir G. 11. Dibps'a cablegram, stating that he did not receive a denial that Mr Peel's paper waa an official document uutil after the raply was printed. They compare this statetneut with the dates of Sir Saul Samuel's messages, and severely criticise Sir G. R. Dibb's conduct on the matter. MR GLADSTONE. Mr Gladstone has caught a bad chill and ia confined to his room. IMPORTS AND EXPORTS. The imports last month show an increase of £4,200,000 and the exports £600,000. COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. Lindus, who shot his wife and her solicitor in Loudon, was committed for trial. SCULLING MATCH. Bubear and Barry have made a match, to be rowed ou the Thames. A LUNATIC. The man Carter, who threatened to kill the Queen unless his claim to an Earldom were recognised, has been adjudged iusane and ordered to be coufioed in an Asylum. MB HUDDART'S ATLANTIC SERVICE. Mr Huddart's Atlantic service will begin iv the spring of 1896. It ii ezpeoted the Australian mails will be lauded in England iv twenty-five days. A BRUSH WITH THE PORTUGUESE. ( Capetown, March 8. Owing to the Portuguese obstructing the building of tbe telegraph line to Zambesi, the British gunboat Mosquito landed a party at Tete, who fired on the Portuguese. The Governor of Quilimane thereupon ordered reinforcements up tbe river to assist his troops. THE MESSAGERIES COMPANY. Paris, March 8, The Messageries Maritimes have decided not to adopt the Torres Strait route for their steamers, THE GERMAN CHANCELLOR. Berlin, March 7. General Yon Caprivi, the German Chancellor, intends to resign, owing to_ a difference with the Secretary of the Treasury in regard to the commercial treaty with Russia.
