The affair arose through Mr Jfajl coming out as a candidate at a parliamentary general election. The Church attempted to frustrate his political efforts by removing him to another station, but |dr Hall positively declined to agree to tbe transfer. THE MERCANTILE BANK CASES. MELBOunNE, March 8. Mr Justice Hood, iv summing up in the Mercantile Rank case yesterday afternoon, narrowed tbe issues down to whetber tbe balance-sheet by the accused was false, and if so, whether the accused were aware of if. The jury arrived at a, verdict of "Not guilty" *fter m bonr'a deliberation, and the accused were discharged. POLITICS, Hqbar?, March 8. An amendment has been moved to Sir E. C. Two labourers, named Harris and Wylde, have been arrested on a charge of having murdered a free miner named Jacobseu, who was employed at the ' Stockton colliery. Jacobseu's dead body was found on Sunday last.
