THE N.S.W. TEAM.
The following remarks by "Not Out," the cricket writer to the Sydney Referee, will doubtless be read with interest, and show the opinion in Sydney as to the strength of the team:—''Glancing at the names of the New Zealand team one is at once struck with the strength of the batting. The eleven are as follows:-—H. Miller, Leon Moore, Syd. Austin, J. Searle, Joe Davis, J. Gould, O. Cowley, A. C. Mackenzie, S. R. Walford, E. Noble and A If. Noble. S. Hopkinson, of the Leichardt Club, has also gone with the team, and is paying his own expenses. There is not' a weak bat in the lot, as any one of them is just as liable to get a score as not. At first sight the bowling appears to be weak ; but it really is stronger than a cursory glance may lead one to believe. A. Noble is the fastest bowler of the lot, and, recollecting how much better Syd. Callaway performed than the slower bowlers did miring the fiwt tour a- few years back, Noble ought to meet with a good deal of success. Austin is the trickiest bowler of the team, and if in anything like proper form should render a good account of himself upon the better class of wickets. Milter is a left hand medium pace bowler, whilst Gould's alow leg breaks, if backed up by the field, should prove successful against batsmen unused to that kind of bowling. Leon Moore bowls a slow off-break. In fielding the team is strong, but latterly J. Searle at the wickets has not been showing exceptional form by any mean 3."
