ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

Mr Thomas Dobson died suddenly at his residence, Ashley, on Saturday afternoon. An inquest was held at the Ashley Hotel, on Sunday afternoon, when Dr. H. Volckman, who had made a post mortem examination ot the body, stated chat death was due to an abscess ou the brain. The jury brought in a verdict in «ccord&uce with the medical testimony. The deceased leaves a widow aud family of thiee children. Great sympathy is felt for Mrs Dobson, who lost one of her children about a fortnight ago.

A miner named lXunel O'Brien had a marvellous escape from a fatal accident at WaiporL He was working in a claim with m face 20ft high, when a fx\l of earth took place, burying him. Fortunately his barrow •vertarned on his head, and this saved him. Hβ was released in about an hour's time by bis brother, working in an adjoining claim, having escaped with a broken colli* r bone ftnd broiaes.
