ST. ALBANS BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A statutory meeting of the Sfc. Albans Borough Couucil was held last evening for the purpose of hearing objections, if any, and certifying to, the Burgess list. There were present —Crs. Xeate (iv the chair), PenteuwJ, Way month, Salter, Chidgey, Keig. Ou the motion of Cγ. Pentesev, the Chairman, Crs. Chidgay and Kcig were authorised to sign the list. An ordinary adjourned meeting was then held, at which the same Councillors were present. Cr. Salter, Chairman of the Sanitary Committee, reported lhat four tenders had been received xor the removal ot nightsoil within the Borough boundaries for the period of three yeai-3. After considerable discussion the tender of Woodcock and Finnerty at £56 5s per quarter was accepted. It was stated that the successful contractors had agreed to connect their premises by telephone for the convenience of the burgesses. .Leave of absence was granted to his "Worship the Mayor aud Crs. Brooker and Tyree. A Hubscription list for the Ballance memorial was received from the Wellington Trades and Labour Council. It was resolved that the Town Clerk ba authorised lo reoeive cuhflcriptioiis. Letteis were received—From the Avon Uoadßoard, asking fur information on several matters, which was ordered to be supplied. From the general manager uf the Ailiancs Insurance Company re iusur&uce of a portion of the Council's property. From the Clerk of the Borough Council of Sydenham, enclosing copy of a Bill to amend tue Public Health Act, which it is pioposed to lay before Parliament next session. Referred to the Sanitary Committee to report.
Cr. WAYMOUTn, on behalf of the Finance Committee, tead the estimates of expenditure for the enßuiog yar as follows :— Works Committee, £1095 10s; Lighting Committee, £265; Finance Committee, £1089 5s Id ; total, including nightsoil contract, £319913s Id. The estimated receipts from all sources was £1262 15s sd, leaviug a. deficit of £1906 17s Bd. To meet the deficiency a rale of fd in the £ on the •mount of assessment for 1892, amounting to £1615 123, was required. The estimates were passed as read. ■ Cr. Keats gave notice of motion for the striking of the usual rates for the ensuing it was decided to give Captain Anderson permission to construct a crossing over Merivale lane from the north side to the footpath, such crossing to be approved by the Works Committee.
It was decided to draw the Inspector's attention to the overgrowth of hedges and trees on Oiiico road.
The Council then adjourned.
