Fat Lambs—A small and unimportant entry, and prices remain about the same as last week.

Store Sheep—A full entry, for which bidding was languid, only the best sorts of crossbreds being enquired for; crossbred wethers fetched frem 9s 3d to lis 2d; halfbred ewes from 12s 6d to 13s Id ; crossbred lambs from 7s 6d to 10s; merinos hard to quit at any price. Messrs Todhunter and Jenninos report on the live and dead stock market for the week ending Thursday, May 11th, as follows:— At the, Addington yards on Wednesday there were yarded for the day's sale 8653 sheep, 3031 head of cattle, and 534 pigs, of which number our entry consisted of 1976 sheep, 93 head of cattle, and 213 pigs. The weather was all that could be wished, and business throughout the day was an improvement on the past few weeks. Fat Cattle—A fairly numerous entry of very varied quality, and a moderate enquiry at about late rates. Prime steers sold at from £7 103 to £9 ss; medium do, £6 to £6 15s; fat cows and heifers, at from £4 lbs to £7. We sold 29 head on a par with these values. Store Cattle—Not a large entry, with a slightly improved enquiry, most lines being quitted at late rates. A good, number of dairy cattle were yarded, but partly on account of the late hour at which they were offered, there was a lack of competition, and a good number were unsold. Fat Sheep—A nmall entiy, very few really prime sheep being on offer. The demand was entirely confined to local requirements, but still values showed a slight improvement on late rates, prime crossbreds selling at from 16s to 18s, and for one extra prime lot 20s and 22s 6d was reached. Crossbred ewes sold at from 10a od to 14s, merino wethers 10s to 13s lOd. Store Sheep — A good number were yarded, and a fair enquiry shown. Crossbred ewes and lambs sold at from lis 3d to 12s 6d, lambs 9s 6d to 10s sd, and turnip sheep from lis 6d to 13s 2d. Pigs—Another large entry met with good competition, late values being just about maintained. We sold a large portion of the entry. Particulars already reported. Kirwee Stock Sale—On Friday last about 4000 sheep were yarded here. The attendance of buyers being on the small side. The enquiry for good sorts of young sheep was, however, very fair, and most of this class were sold at fully late rates. Merino ewes and merino wethers were, however, very difficult to quit. We sold a good pro* portion of the entry at full rates. Clearing Sales—On Tuesday at Broadfields we held a sale of farm and live and dead stock for the executors of the estate, and favoured with fine weather and a good attendance of buyers, we succeeded in selling both the farm and the stock at most satisfactory prices. It was our privilege and pleasure yesterday to conduct what we think we can safely call the best and most successful sale of live and dead stock that has taken place in this district for a good number of years. The sale waa held on account of Mr M. J. Bnrke, who has sold his farm, and the condition of the live stock, the condition and appearance in fact of everything on the place, reflected

the greatest credit on Mr Burke and his men. The day was gloriously fine aud the way that farmers came in their traps and on horseback from every direction was a treat to see. It was the largest attendance we have ever seen at a clearing sale. An early start at selling was made, after all had partaken of a good lunch, aud bids came quickly and sundries and implements were soon got through, prices being simply -splendid. Reapers and binders £30, chaffcutters £14 10s, ploughs up to £14 10s, rollers at £14 10s, grain drill £31, farm drays up to £16 10a, 60 bacon pigs from 40s to 46a, 40 lightweight baqoners to 50s to 345, breeding sows tip to £3 10a and £3 153, weaners 9s to 12s, a line of 340 store lambs at 9s 6d, crossbred ewes at 13s 9d, aud rams from 2 to 2£ guineas. While everything sold well, tho sale of the cattle was something to bo remembered. Sent into the ring iv the best order aud condition, tho competition for them was worth going a loug way to sec; £10 was a constantly recurring price, while £11, £12, £13 and £13 7s 6d frequently occurred, aud for the whole herd, close on 60 head, the prices were simply phenomenal. After tbe milking herd were disposed of the heifers were brought forward, and a splendid lot they wore. Etghteen-months-old heifers fetched from £4 2s 6d to £6 2s 6d, how is that for high? yearling heifers nt £3, and that, and heifer calves at £2 2s, is we think a record. The best of it all was every one seemed delighted with their part of the proceedings, aud pleased with their purchases. We have Mr Burkes word for it that he is highly satisfied with the result, and we give you our word that we should like to "go through the same performance again " and again.
