HUNTING.
The Ashburton hounds met at Methven OD Monday. There was a very small muster at the meet, one or two joining in afterwards. Mr McLean's farm at Cairnbrae was the first draw appointed, but hounds got on to a hare on the road, which, after a ring in Mr Henderson's paddock, across the road to McKay's, was lost on the Chertsey road. After a long draw one was found on Mr McLean's, and was killed after a nice run of about two miles. Another was found almost impieditttely, «nd gave a run of about four miles across Messrs Campbell, Henderson, McKay, Mc Hen dry, McLean and binall's properties, being then lost near the railway between Lyudhurst and Cairnbrae. The hounds must have changed hares on leaving McLean's, as the hunted hare was seen close to the homestead when the hounds were half a mile away. Scent was variable and the country heavy.
