The annual meeting of ratepayers was held on May Ist. Present—Mr Evans (Chairman), R. W. Chapman, J. Armstrong, S. Giles, R. Hopkins, H. Pashby, D. Bell, and R. Wright. The annual report and balance sheet was read. It was proposed by Itr Evans and seconded by Mr Hopkins and carried, that the report and audited balance ■beet as read be received and adopted. {There being no other business the meeting adjourned. The monthly meeting was held the same day. Present—Messrs Evans, Chapman, Giles, Hopkins, and Paahby. A letter was read from the Returning Officer, stating that Meears R. W. Chapman and Lot Giles were the only gentlemen nominated as members of the Board to fill the vacancies of the retiring members, and they were declared duly elected. Mr Hopkins proposed and Mr Giles seconded that Mr Pashby be elected Chairman for the ensuing year. Letters were read from the Secretary to the {Treasury, enclosing forms of receipt and expenditure, &&, and for statistics in accordance with the Counties Act, 1886, sec. 218. Ordered to be prepared and forwarded. From the Under Secretary for Justice, requesting the Board to instruct the Clerk of the Licensing Committee to forward a return of the fees received in stamps under the Licensing Act, which was ordered to be done. From the Charitable Aid Board, stating that £106 4s was the amount levied on thia Board for charitable aid purposes for the year ending March 31st, 1894. Also, from the Hospital Board, stating that £35 16s was the amount required for Hospital maintenance for the year ending March 21st, 1894, both amounts being payable on May Ist. The Clerk was directed to inquire oa what valuation the levy had been m»de and the amount in the £. From the Audit Inspector drawing the attention of the Board to the amount of outstanding Teats due to the Board on the balance sheet, from Mrs C Whiteford, stating that she would like a competent valuer appointed to value the piece of land required for the northern approach to the proposed new bridge over the Rangiora main drain, and suggested that Mr Alfred Brown be appointed valuer. The Clerk stated that a reply had been forwarded to Mrs Whiteford to the effect that if Mr Brown valued the land on behalf of Mrs Whiteford and submitted it in time for this meeting the Board would consider whether they would agree to accept the offer. From the Mandeville and Rangiora Road Board consent*isg to boar half the cost of constructing a -new bridge at the estimated cost, in three spans of 30ft each, provided the land required for the northern approach can be obtained at a reasonable cost. From Mr Joseph Wilson requesting the Board to build a porch to door of the cottage at Cherry ford. Refused. From R. Duffall requesting the Board to have the drain forming the boundary between him and the Board cleaned out. Ordered to be done. From Mr Isaac Wilson, requesting the Board to assist in raising the Eyre bank along the frontage of his land. Adjourned until next meeting to allow the members to see the work proposed to be done. From Mr John Dobson, Chairman WaimakaririAshley Water Supply Board, stating that Mr Dixon was making another water-race and cutting across the road on the bank of the river, which was calculated to do damage to the roads and property of this district. The Surveyor was directed to inspect the work being done and report the matter to the Board's solicitor for him to advise the Board what to do in the matter. It was resolved that three bushels of each sort of poisoned wheat be ordered from Mr Brooke in ffmftll bags for a trial. From Mr W. Wilson, complaining of the occupier of the cottage at err S.* Ford burning gorse on his property. The Clerk was directed to reply that the person complained of would be written to warning him that he would be held liable to make good any damage done.
