The annual meeting of ratepayers was held on the evening of May sth, at the office of the Board, Mr Handisides, Chairman, presiding. There was a fair attendance of ratepayers. The Clerk stated that the accounts for the past year had been audited, but he had not yet received the balancesheet. A copy of it was read, and the different items explained. It was proposed by Mr Moore, and seconded by Mr Smith-— ** That the meeting be adjourned until the receipt of the balance-sheet." The ordinary meeting of the Board was then held. A letter from the Christchurch City Council, asking that delegates from the Board be asked to attend a conference of local bodies to consider the advisableness of purchasing or taking over the Canterbury tramways. It was moved by Mr Rogers and seconded by Mr Oliff—" That the Clerk be instructed to write and decline." A circular from the Halswell Road Board, to ask if a deputation from this Board would meet in conference with Halswell and Riccarton Boards for the purpose of representing to the proper authorities the danger to the public caused by the escape of lunatics from the Sunnyside Asylum. It was moved and seconded that Messrs Handisides and Oliff attend as delegates to aDy meeting summoned for the purpose by the Halswell Board. A letter was also read from the Avon Road Board, asking this Board to unite with other Boards to take action to have the Christchurch Drainage Act amended so as to relieve suburban districts. It was resolved that the Clerk write to say that they would do so. From Waimakariri Board, enclos<ng copy of resolution fixing amount of rates to be levied for the current year. It was resolved that no person be allowed to take shingle from the Board's pit without first applying to D. McLenaghan, and that a notice be put up warning persons against trespassing.
